Vilamendhoo Island Resort is surrounded by a beautiful turquoise lagoon, an excellent house reef and long stretches of soft white sandy beach. The island is in the South Ari Atoll and is 900 metres long and 250 metres wide, covering about 5 acres and is reached by a 25 minute seaplane transfer. It is the sister island of Meeru, and you can expect the same level of luxury throughout. Vilamendhoo Island Resort has a really good house reef full of marine life and vivid corals, it is probably one of the best house reefs in the Maldives. They will even provide you with a free snorkeling lesson showing you around the best parts of the reef.
Vilamendhoo Island Resort has four choices of accommodation: Garden rooms, Beach Villa, Jacuzzi Beach Villa or Jacuzzi Water Villa. The Jacuzzi Beach Villas and Jacuzzi Water Villas are for adults only.
There are two restaurants, both with the same menu, where you can try the “all you can eat” buffet style meals for breakfast, lunch and dinner. There is a variety of international and regional cuisines to please everyone’s taste. Friday nights at Vilamendhoo Island Resort is Maldivian night, with a themed menu and the waiters in traditional dress. You are even served complimentary Sparkling Wine with Sunday Breakfast. The Restaurant is divided into two separate areas, the traditional open air style, with sand floor and thatched roofs and outdoor seating on a wooden deck. There are two a la carte restaurants at the resort, the Asian Wok restaurant specialising in Asian cuisine and Teppanyaki and the Hot Rock Restaurant, where you can eat seafood, steak, chicken or exotic game cooked at your table on volcanic “hot rocks”.
Vilamendhoo Island Resort boasts a Windsurf and Sailing Centre where you can rent and get instruction on different types of boats, including Catamarans and Kayaks.
There is also the PADI 5 Star dive centre on the island, with a team of 10-12 instructors, covering a range of languages including English, German, French, Dutch and Japanese. Services and facilities at the dive centre include guided diving and snorkeling trips, equipment and accessory sales, rental, complete PADI Instructional Program and NITROX. Whether a beginner or have plenty of experience they will be happy to help you.
There are two fresh water swimming pools on the island, overlooking the Beach. The Sunset Bar Pool for adults only andthe Boashi Bar Pool with a separate children’s wading pool.
The resort also has a fitness centre, lit tennis court, putting green, beach volleyball, badminton, petanque, bicycles, and football grounds. For the younger guests there is a children’s play area and games room. There is also a children’s park for them to play in. Vilamendhoo Island Resort also takes guests out on regular fishing trips, including deep sea trips for big game fishing.
Other excursions run by the resort include trips to see Mantas and turtles, snorkeling boat trip and island hopping. There is even a sunset cruise excursion for the romantic ones out there.
