Diving in the Maldives
Diving in the Maldives is a fantastic experience. The warm crystal blue seas of the Indian Ocean have great visibility through out the year, with the water clear enough to see the fish as they swim as far away as fifty metres. It also allows you to marvel over the incredible formation of over three thousand coral reefs and the free flowing tides of the monsoons. These perfect conditions have resulted in one of the world’s richest diving coral reef belts making this an experience that will bring you back here over and over again.
With more than a thousand species of fish and other under water animals living in the Indian Ocean, the monsoon tides here form a wonderful collection of fish, nudibranchs and other small marine creatures, as well as minute plant cells. This creates a focus for all kinds of under water life who collect in these waters tempted by the abundance of food. Diving in the Maldives will allow you see everything, from tiny shrimp and groups of colourful swimmers to the superb mantas and sharks, keep a lookout and you will see enough to mesmerise you for the rest of your life, making you want to come back time and time again to go diving in the Maldives.

The best thing about diving in the Maldives is that you do not need not be an expert diver to take advantage of the wonderful under water life. All the island resorts give you basic to advanced instruction and training, using well monitored and professional diving centres, of a very high quality. Even those who have only just qualified to dive can enjoy the incredible beauty of the under water life in the Maldivian waters on a drift dive with the help and guidance of qualified dive trainers. You will also find diving in a house reef is just as rewarding, all that is required is for you to swim a few minutes from shore. Because there are an innumerable number of reefs found around the 26 atolls in the Maldives, all that is needed is for you to travel between 15 to 60 minutes by boat and you will be at a different site every day.
Diving in the Maldives usually happens along a faru (reef), a thila (a submerged aquarium like reef), or on a strait where the atoll meets the ocean, or on a wreck.
Diving in the Maldives at night is especially wonderful, as is a macro dive, that allows you see the curious and often overlooked tiny animals from a very close angle. An underwater camera will give you some fascinating photos.
Diving with Manta Rays and Whale Sharks are incredible experiences and the resorts dive centre will arrange these trips for you. Definitely one not to be missed.
