Snorkeling in the Maldives

Each island has it’s own lagoon and reef, swim to the edge of the reef where the ocean bed drops off and just snorkel in this area and you will see almost everything. Red and yellow snappers, parrot fish, Indian bannerfish, anemone fish, angel fish, wrasse, unicorn fish, tuna, lion fish, trigger fish, oriental sweetlips, turtles, rays and even reef sharks to mention a few. You can also take excursions further out in to the ocean to see Manta rays and Whale sharks.

If you are unsure about snorkeling in the Maldives, especially over the deeper drop off then wear a life jacket. This will allow you to just float on top of the water and move slowly along the reef at your own pace. Not got all the equipment, don’t worry, the resorts have a dive and water sports centre that will hire this to you. It will be well worth it and once you have done this you will be hooked.
